A Glimpse Of The Past Through The Cinemotography Collection - The production of an illusion of motion began when Peter Mark Roget discovered the "persistence of vision" where the eye retains an image for a fraction of a second. In the 1870's Eadweard Muybridge set up the famous 24 cameras in a row to see whether a galloping horse had all four feet off the ground at one time. These and other developments eventually spawned what we know as cinematography. New methods, new technology, and skill in putting it all together belong to a host of individuals with the foresight and ingenuity to produce what we take for granted.
